The Removal Of Carcinogenic Label Is Beneficial To China's Titanium Dioxide Exports

The Removal of Carcinogenic Label is Beneficial to China's Titanium Dioxide Exports

At the end of November, the Permanent Court of Justice of the European Union (PCJEU) announced the abolition of the EU classification and labeling of titanium dioxide as a carcinogenic substance in the inhalation of certain powder forms. The Court found that the European Commission had made a manifest mistake in assessing the reliability and acceptability of the studies from which the classification was based and had wrongly applied the EU classification criteria to substances that do not have intrinsic carcinogenic properties. This ruling is expected to be a huge boon to the entire titanium dioxide industry.

As the best performing white pigment, titanium dioxide is used extensively in plastics, coatings, rubber, chemical fibers, ceramics, food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, new materials for construction, electronics industry, microelectromechanics, automotive and environmental industries. As the world's largest producer of titanium dioxide, a large part of China's production capacity for export, the EU court ruling means that the EU titanium dioxide in coatings, food and other industry applications of the unbundling, to reduce China's titanium dioxide enterprises in the international competition of non-tariff trade barriers, which will help further enhance China's international competitiveness in titanium dioxide enterprises. In the meantime, it also helps to dispel the doubts of downstream customers about the carcinogenic aspects of titanium dioxide and promote the overall demand for titanium dioxide market.
