Does the Fineness and Dispersion of
Titanium Dioxide Affect its Performance?
The fineness of titanium dioxide in titanium dioxide enterprises usually use 325 mesh sieve residue to control, when the fineness exceeds the standard, the coating film in the surface of the decorated object obviously has coarse particles or affect the dispersion of titanium dioxide.
Titanium dioxide is a superior quality white pigment, which is insoluble in water and oil, and can be uniformly dispersed in these media, therefore, titanium dioxide has two dispersion characteristics of water dispersion and oil dispersion. In water-based coatings, under the condition that the other components of the coating are normal, the water dispersion of titanium dioxide is required to be good, and to achieve dispersion stabilization in the system. For poor water dispersion of titanium dioxide, under the action of high-speed shear force, after dispersion, it is easy to agglomerate and lead to the return of coarse phenomenon, so that in the process of transportation of paint, there is a delamination, the use of a great inconvenience. For solvent-based coatings, when the titanium dioxide oil dispersion is poor, titanium dioxide in the oil solvent can not be completely dispersed, will also lead to particle agglomeration, the production of solvent-based coatings, the requirements of the dispersion equipment is strict, high energy consumption.
If the titanium dioxide dispersion is poor, the surface of the coating film is rough and the reflected light is messy, which greatly affects the gloss of the coating film. On the other hand, this rough coating film is easy to accumulate water and dust with corrosive media, which not only affects the appearance of the coating film, but also seriously reduces the durability of the coating film. A well-dispersed titanium dioxide can be evenly dispersed in the solvent, and the surface of the coating film is smooth as a mirror, making most of the light reflected and greatly reduced by the damage of ultraviolet light. Therefore, sharp-state titanium dioxide is generally not coated, and its high oil absorption leads to poor oil dispersion, which makes it somewhat limited in the application in the coating industry.
