How to Identify the Authenticity of Titanium Dioxide

How to Identify the Authenticity of Titanium Dioxide

Nowadays, titanium dioxide is becoming more and more popular, but some unscrupulous merchants make fake titanium dioxide to deceive consumers. Then there are some methods to identify the authenticity of titanium dioxide.

一. Information provided by the supplier.

Each batch of titanium dioxide has a corresponding SGS test report, which is given to the supplier when the supplier pulls back the goods from the manufacturer. Secondly, if it is imported titanium dioxide, then the customer can ask the supplier to provide the import and export certificate issued by the customs department. Finally, customers can also request product introduction materials from suppliers.

二. Identification through packaging

Imported titanium dioxide usually has its own characteristics (such as patterns, fonts, batch numbers, etc.) on its packaging. First, it can be identified on its packaging. Secondly, the sealing of imported titanium dioxide has its own characteristics, which is different from that of domestic titanium dioxide. Same.

三. Physical detection methods

1. The easiest way is to compare the hand feel, the fake titanium dioxide is smoother, and the real titanium dioxide is more astringent.

2. Rinse with water. Put a little titanium dioxide on your hand, the fake one is easy to wash off, but the real one is not easy to wash off.

3. Take a glass of water, throw titanium dioxide into it, what floats up is true, and what settles down is false. (If it is an activated modified product, it will not work.)

四. Chemical detection methods

1. Mixed with light calcium or heavy calcium: adding dilute sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid, the presence of air bubbles can make the clear lime water turbid, because calcium carbonate will react with acid to generate carbon dioxide.

2. Mixed with lithopone: add dilute sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid, there is a smell of rotten eggs.

3. Make latex paint, add iron red, and the color is dark, indicating that the poor hiding power is fake or poor quality titanium dioxide.

4. For BaSO4 mixed with acid, it can only be identified by X-ray diffraction because it cannot react with acid.

5. It is difficult to distinguish titanium dioxide with anatase type posing as rutile type by general chemical methods, and can only be identified by X-ray diffraction method.
