The Titanium Dioxide Used in Ceramics
Ceramic grade titanium dioxide is a subdivision of anatase titanium dioxide, which is one of the two main varieties of titanium dioxide, with high purity, uniform particle size, high refractive index, excellent high temperature resistance, and does not turn gray in 1 hour under the high temperature of 1200 degrees. With high opacity, thin coating and light weight, it is widely used in ceramics, construction, decoration and other materials.

Ceramic grade titanium dioxide has high purity, good whiteness, bright color, uniform particle size, very strong refractive index and high achromatic power, using its high refractive index can obtain better whiteness and opacity, and can improve the refractive index, suitable for the manufacture of building materials with color floor tiles, glass tiles, porcelain plates, special refractory materials, tableware, sanitary ware and ceramic crafts.
The manufacturing method of ceramic grade titanium dioxide is basically the same as that of all kinds of anatase titanium dioxide, which is a sulfuric acid manufacturing process. Sulfuric acid titanium dioxide is made of titanium solution by decomposing ilmenite with industrial sulfuric acid, and then made into hydrated titanium dioxide (metatitanic acid) after purification and hydrolysis, and further purified metatitanic acid to remove various impurities such as iron and calcined dehydration, desulfurization, and crystalline transformation into titanium dioxide base material, which can be crushed as a commodity without post-processing, or after further grinding and dispersion, water selection, surface coating treatment, drying, and precision crushing become a commodity. This is the titanium dioxide produced by the wet route, which is the sulfuric acid titanium dioxide; it is a different production process from the dry route of chlorinated titanium dioxide. Sulfuric acid method can produce both anatase titanium dioxide and rutile titanium dioxide, which has become a mature classic process route.
